During this assignment I was asked to get in the group we were assigned to, brainstorm on a type of film we could possibly shot, write our ideas down on the piece of paper, create a short script, make an actual story board online, fill out important information that involves us shooting the film, reading the safety and dangers of what could happen, film and edit. All of these things where indeed a hassle and time consuming but I must say it was all worth it in the end. Surprisingly our group in the beginning was able to easily come up with an idea that we could film. We all pretty much had the same idea in our head so we started to discuss what was in our minds to each other. We choose idea together as a team with no complaints and problems. 

For the audio and video production research, since the film my group would be shooting was sad, I looked at a lot of piano sadness songs and different angles that could make the scene more dramatic. In my opinion this worked really good on the scene where the main character is tremendously trying as hard as he can to decide if he should take the pill or not. His indecisiveness and the angle that I shot the scene in gives it a suspenseful vibe to it. So yes It was helpful. For this film that we shot on the demographic side it is more heavily viewed towards teens and parents. The parents get a special message at the end of the film that should make them second guess about their child and see if their child really is ok. It also affects teens by showing that the main character could be their best friend and they don’t know it. For the films psychographic side, this would impact those who have been in a situation like this or have helped out someone in a situation similar to it.

 My role in this entire project was set heavily on the story of this film. If the others in my group did not really coop with it their video would not look the same.  I contributed by sharing how there should be at least some slight suspense at the end of the film, filming the different scenes and intense angles and producing the story board. I tried my best to make it as accurate towards the main film as possible. To complete this film, we used a Panasonic digital recording camera and a bipod, a computer to finish editing it all and upload it to YouTube. I was able to use adobe premiere pro to edit, snip, cut, paste my video. I must say, it would be really cool and easy to have adobe premier pro at home on my desk top. I really pushed heavy on the story of the film, defiantly my choice of audio and editing. I enjoy editing a lot because of the unlimited ideas you can create your film. Areas I could improve in are time consumption, meaning the time we take to actually film. 

We had a couple of bloopers here and there. I also could say that I could improve in editing. I wish that I had more editing experience to make the film more appealing. I don’t believe I really learnt any new skills nor had the chance to develop any during this assignment. I was merely using the skills I have been taught in class and simply put them to the best of my capability. For this assignment I really enjoyed putting the films that I shot together in adobe premiere pro and editing them. I really enjoy editing, but like I said before I wish I knew how to add different special fx etc. I also enjoyed filming a lot more. The feedback that I got from my audience was positive feedback. They enjoyed the film and thought it was suspenseful at the end just like me. Judging from the feedback, they got/understood what I was trying to portray in my film. For future assignments I hope that my editing skills are 10x better and my sense of camera angles are better.

Week 7 

This week was a lot of fun. I was able to edit my film, add in different sound fx and audio. In my opinion the film came out pretty good. I see a few mistakes here and there but that is because I ( as the creator ) was able to notice it. Overall it was a good week. I believe next time i will try and add in a few more special fx here and there. Because this was not the first time using premier pro, i was used to how the cuts etc are layed out and work.

For the audio, In my film ( the way I edited it ) I had little to no actual speaking in it.I mainly used music to change the different moods in the film. I also wanted to have the viewer to try and understand deeply what is happening in the short film.

I learnt how to properly make a story board and the importance of paper work. I had to sign off a lot of papers and get organised for filming.  I also had to make a time consuming story board that took forever. We wanted a lot of detail in the story board and for it to look as accurate as possible  when comparing it to the film. We had to fill out consent forms, read the health and safety forms, fill out a budget sheet, action plan, call sheet, location recce forms and create a cover page for our short film. I pushed myself by staying positive and just thinking how much fun it would be when it comes to editing. The filming part is a lot of fun but i like the editing better.

This week for journal number 5, we where singing off a lot of papers and getting ourselves organised for filming. We also had to make a time consuming story board that took forever. We wanted a lot of detail in the story board and for it to look as accurate as possible  when comparing it to the film. We had to fill out consent forms, read the health and safety forms, fill out a budget sheet, action plan, call sheet, location recce forms and create a cover page for our short film. It was a tough week because our team was not working in the best it could be.

Location recce form

My group and I choose theses locations based on the Surroundings. For example the ice rink. It was full of live people. We needed this for the scene where it shows the main character having a good time with his best friend. All the locations we picked, we all agreed on because it followed through with the story board perfectly and the script.

Here is one of the locations where we shot at. It is at a car park and has an overview of the city roads and traffic. We had to be extremely careful that we do not fall over the side because we could seriously injure ourselves. We also had to be careful that we don't get hit by any cars coming inside the car park.In this location, we where in the central part of the city. Since it was December and around Christmas there was an ice rink with Christmas tree lights.  Because it was in the heart of the city there was a lot of people. Due to the script and story board, we decided to use this location. It suited our scene perfectly in my opinion. We also shot inside the building for example, in the bathroom. This was our final scene and shot. The only difficulty we had was when people had to come in and use the bathroom. We moved out of the way with respect. We learnt that you should always 2nd check that you have your equipment and belongings. One of my team members forgot the folder with our paper work and had to run back and get it.

Week 4

This week ( week 4) was an interesting week. It was indeed bothersome in my opinion, having to fill out all the paper work for our short film. For example, the budget sheet, location sheet, story board etc. I signed it all because i new that all of this is mandatory and important. Thinking about this in advanced as a career i would need to do this and be used to it. I appreciate what i am learning etc. So in this week i learnt the importance of the written parts of film making and organization. We filled out a lot of paper work and in the end we began to shot our film from location to location. I was able to push my self forward and keep moving on ( doing what i got to do ) because in the back of my head i always say to myself " you do not want to fail and be kicked off " In all honesty that is what I constantly say to myself. I also had 1 good team member who motivates me as well, although I have to say that the other individual in my group did little to no written parts of this assignment with us. Moving forward was a little bit tricky in my opinion. I feel behind a little in my work and i tried to catch up. I was able to do so ( kind of ) an completed my tasks.

Here you can see that We are all in the same group. We used this schedule to show who would take the roll of acting, filming and directing. Before starting anything though we had to brainstorm and think about what our short film would be about. Once our brain storm was finished we was able to write it on a piece of paper. We thought about what lighting we would use, the different locations that we would use to shoot our film, What camera angles we would use, what would we be wearing etc.

Because of the risks when it came to filming, there was also a sheet explaining what not to do. This was very important because there was a lot of risks that could happen whilst filming our short film. We also had to sign that individual paper to say we agree and will abide by the rules.

Our group also added in a story board to help us as well when it come sot filming. We where able to use the story board to guide us step by step one by on, on which scene we had to shoot next. We where given multiple sheets to fill out that would help us and guide us for our short film. The story board that we made online not only shows pictures of what happens but it also shows what type of shot would be used in the scene ( for example a wide angle shot or birds eye view ).  Once we finished writing out all of the details we were able to then move on and start filming. Whilst filming there was bloopers from here and there where we could not take out selves serious in certain scenes. I believe we should never be to tense or serious when it comes to filming. For the blooper with me smiling that took place in the-bathroom for the final scene. We where trying out different angles on where to shoot from. I tried my best to stay serious when i came barging in the room but couldn't keep my composure. For Steven, he was trying to get sad and look upset. This is the scene where he would receive all the hate messages that would be coming in from bullies. He also could not keep his composure and started to giggle. Ocian also could not keep her composure when it came to staying quiet in the background. Everyone was making everyone laugh but we as having a good time.

For this week ( week 3 ), we where learning about what genre is as a whole, generic conventions and iconography. We where also writing down notes on different types of narratives with examples.  For example Iconography is when it has symbolic images in a film that have specific meanings attached to them and can be identifiable by genre. Star Wars can be listed as SYFY because of its light sabers and space travels. Fast and Furious could be listed as action due to is races with quick cars. We also had to find a minimum of two short films from "ShortOfTheWeek.com" and say what i liked about it, and find images from two books or journal that inspired an idea for a short film and what i liked about it. It was not an easy task in my opinion because I did not find any book that i liked. I was still able to complete the task at hand though.

For this week, we where looking at the different genres of films and the different research terminology's ( meaning the different ways an individual gets information ). Once I was able to have a better understanding of the different types of genres there are when it comes to films, I then began to create a survey online. The survey consisted of a person stating their age, if they watch movies,  and what movie genre do they like. Once the survey was finished i then proceeded to move to Facebook and post that survey. In the end I got a lot of interesting results .

The making of 2 minute film

     

    It was time for me to start editing all the shots my group and I took. I had some bloopers here and there of us filming etc but i was able to separate them from the footage i needed to edit with. Because of the way I wanted to present the message within my short film, I had little to nobody speaking in the film. Instead I added music. In my opinion this allows the person who is watching interpret what is happening in their own mind.

For the very first image at the very top, I was adding in my music in adobe premier pro. The green bar is what it looks like once you add in music. The blue bar is what it looks like when you add in the film/video.  Once i was finished adding in all of my video and music. I decided to add in credits. On the bottom picture i was  adding in factual in formation about suicide. This would be played once the main 2 minute story is finished be shown.
